At Sale High School we aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum which will excite new interests and equip our students with the skills and motivation to become lifelong learners. Our curriculum is designed to help our students capitalise on existing strengths, discover new ones and overcome challenges faced in learning. We believe that our curriculum gives every student the best possible opportunity to leave school empowered to access further education, to access the best that the job market has to offer and to become a positive and productive citizen contributing to the local, national and global community.
In addition to the core curriculum we ensure that the arts, sciences, languages, humanities, PE and technology subjects are available to all students. In order to equip students for some of the most aspirational courses, careers and institutions we encourage the English Baccalaureate at Key Stage Four.
Our ‘Super Learning Days’ are an essential part of our curriculum offer which prepares our students for life and work in the 21st Century. These days cover citizenship, personal, social, economic, careers and health education. Through Super Learning Days and every aspect of our curriculum and school life we engage students in the following values which are fundamental to life in many countries and which the government has identified as core British values: democracy; the rule of law; individual liberty; mutual respect and tolerance.
We firmly believe in the role that education has to play in the development of the ‘whole child’ and in enabling young people both to make informed decisions and to understand and respect those whose thoughts and beliefs are different to their own. Social, moral, spiritual and cultural education is evident across the curriculum and is supported in a range of ways including our assembly programme, pastoral care and enrichment opportunities. Should a parent wish to withdraw their child from RE or collective worship they should write to the Headteacher.
For a detailed look at the curriculum for each year group please see the links below (but please be aware that the timings are meant as a rough guide and there will be variations according to issues such as student need or interruptions to lesson sequence). Parents can use these and the Extended Reading Pack in order to support their child’s studies and extend their learning as appropriate.
